My nurse said by 6 months of age the baby's skin won't be as sensitive to fragrance so we will be able to use the scented bath items (Johnsons Night time bath) and regular detergents.
You don't have to use Dreft, you can use any brand of detergent that is dye-free and fragrance-free.
I washed my baby's items in Cheer Free, it was the cheapest. And her skin was fine.
You shouldn't use fabric softner with baby's laundry because it reduces the flame resistance of the fabric and it is the cause of many newborn allergies and it has been linked to SIDS.

If baby's skin is extra sensitive, after you've washed the items, run them through the washer again with no detergent and this will help greatly.

Personally I never used Dreft bit I do know others that have, I stuck with the All free & clear, because it is free of dyes and perfums. it is a regular laundry detergent not just a baby detergent. It is for sensitive skin and that is what my family uses. you can acctually find a cheaper version of it at wal-mart. part of the purex line----hope this helped

It varies with children, I used it until about 6 months, but after that I still washed all the baby clothes seperatly with just a little bit of soap ( I used the stain removers for any big stains) and I rinsed at least twice to make sure all the residue was gone. I also still don't use fabric softener and only one sheet of dryer sheets.

Depends on how sensitive your baby's skin is. If you want to try switching, you can wash one undershirt in a regular load and then see if the baby reacts to the change. If there is no rash or other symptoms that make you think your child is bothered by it, make the change. Otherwise, wait a little longer.

i used it until the twins were about 3 months old, then i started mixing with a cheap laundry soap 1/2 and 1/2. i would also always wash their clothes seperatly. when they were about 8 months old i just started using regular detergent. but just not a whole scoop. good luck!
