Take him to the local library and let him browse. If he's reluctant, the children's librarian should be able to point him in the direction of interesting books. In general, boys like nonfiction more than fiction. He might be interested in books about how things work, sports, etc. What does he watch most often on TV? That should give you an idea of the subjects he's interested in. If he watches a lot of ESPN, look for biographies of athletes, or a book on the history of sports. If he likes MTV, look for books about celebrities or how things like CDs and mp3 players are made.

security analysis - benjamin graham and dodd
wildress living and survival skills - mcpherson
orienteering books
Understanding firearm ballistics
Vitrivius: 10 books(treaties) on architecture -
Any knot book
Although the books are difficult at first, but nothing good comes easy. The topics are more adult oriented, and could give him practical knowledge of why math learned in school is important in any application....
I find that the styles of Vitrivius contrast greatly to Security Analysis yet, each person was knowledgeable about their careers.
The ballistic firearm probably needs advise on its serious risks, yet if you read it over, it is informative on very basic principles of physics/ chemistry/ mathematics/ mechanical engineering and safety.

Harry Potter?! What the.. don't listen to her.. that woman is crazy. I'm in the seventh grade too, so I'll tell you what I like to read. The Bartimaeus Trilogy is very good.. Marley and Me is good too. Bring him to the Teen's section in Barnes and Noble. It's like good book heaven lol. So.. why are you asking this question? I think it's up to him to pick what he wants to read. I can't really tell you what kind of book he would like.. what level is his reading? Is he one of those dumb kids who still reads goosebumps.. or the freakishly smart ones that read boing books about President Lincoln? I needs info!! ( 7th grade boys like nasty nudity, "Jackass", and potty humor. ( That reminds me.. maybe you should buy him some captain underpants LOL.
