Oddly enough, electric refrigeraators. They cme into use during the 1930s (a few were sold earlier but to wealthy households); large iceboxes or ice chests wre more common. The reason they remind me of this was that the early frozen food industry was encouraged by government because frozen food could be wrapped in paper or cardboard which became one of the substitutes for canned foods. Of course, most people were encouraged to grow vegetables in victory gardens and to preserve them by home canning in bottles. This is a minor part of the war effort, but it is one of the things that I'm reminded of.
