1 No. No game requires the Harddisk to play. However, for certain game functions, that are not essential (like for example special Co-Op modes in crackdown) you need a Harddrive.
Also, in order to play old Xbox 1 games, a harddrive is absolutely necessary. Also see

2. Both are the same, just except for the cable. Maybe it will help your mom to clean up better, as there are no cables dangling around when she wants to clean the floor.

3. The cable is a standard ethernet cable, so it only works in a DSL Modem/router. Not on your PC. You need to buy a crossover cable to directly connect Xbox and PC. If you have a router, just connect Xbox and PC onto that router and off you go.

4. Yes.

5. Yes. However most demos are so large, that you definitely need a hard drive.

6. I played it, too. Yes, it is great.

7. Probably. But not in the near future. Microsoft is losing money on the Xbox Hardware. Even with newer and cheaper chips the console will cost MS more than they sell it for. So a price reduction is not probable this year, especially since the only competitor, the PS3 is much more expensive.

8. Either put in a music CD and rip it to your harddrive. Or (the better way), rip the CD to your PC as MP3, and then connect your PC and Xbox to your network.
Then you can stream music from your PC to Xbox even while you are playing a game. Your Music will replace the games music, but sound effects will still work. Its a great feature of the Xbox.

However, these reasons will probably not sell the Xbox to your mom...
