I think you first have to try and contact the owner, thru a search of the plate or registration papers. (The individual may have gotten into an accident and is passed away.)
What do you do then? You have a claim for the repair costs so Check your local laws in regard to abandoned vehicles and non payment for services.
If you fixed it you can apply interest on the bill as well, to a point where you could claim the vehicle as yours to sell as payment.

If you know the persons name and perhaps address you can send them a letter regarding the car. by law they have a certain amount of days to respond to it, if they don't , i believe that the vehicle could become yours in the end. their is some sort of law that allows for this. Also, you could technically charge the person a storage fee for keeping their car on your property for X amount of days, months, or in your case a YEAR. I would definately check up on the laws in your state. i work at a car dealership and i know that after a while the car could totally become yours due to the owner abandoning it.

With out knowing all the facts you can issue them a bill &post to last known address. Then claim the car through the Sherriff's Office for the unclaimed outstanding bill .
Make sure that the bill for repairs are worth more than the car.

the phone works both ways. Did you try to find them?
Follow the procedure for filing for a title on an abandoned vehicle. When you have the title then you can fix it and keep or sell it.

Have the car towed. The owners obviously don't want it, so when they decide they want it, they can go pay to get it out. Your house is not a permanent parking spot. A year is long enough to wait.

I'd say it's abandoned. Do you know how to get a hold of this person? If not you may have to get the police involved. Does it have a registration in it? Maybe it's stolen.

do all the legal hooplah (abandoned vehicle claims, so on), of course, but I say keep it... then, once it's legally yours, enter it into a dempolition derby, smash it up really well, then sell it to a scrap yard... that way you get the satisfaction of having smashed the bane of your driveway's existence along with the cash from having sold it... :)
