Leonard Davis is a 6'6", 365 lb tackle/guard who recently signed a 7 year, $49.6 million contract, with $18.75 going into his pocket regardless if he sucks or is a success. In a "what have you done for me lately" league, I have to ask what has this guy done ever. This is a 365 lb guy who should be a mauler. Instead, he's a slow footed, timid blocker who doesn't finish blocks properly and is easily run around and through by defensive linemen. How does this sack of flour get nearly 19 million in guaranteed dollars? I thought that Jerry Jones had smoked some of Michael Irvin's crack when he signed Terrible Owens to a 3 year contract, but this time he's sky high. Giving a guy that kind of money based on potential is insane. The Cardinals drafted him #2 overall and paid him heavily based on potential, and all he did was anchor the worst offensive line in football last season. This line turned Edgerrin James into the laughingstock of NFL running backs? Anyone agree with me right now?

One of the best O-Line coaches from Pittsburgh now resides in Arizona. Why do you think he did not want Davis? They know he will never amount to anything much, and did not want to renegotiate or pay a inappropriate salary to the guy for "potential". In 5 years... either you have it... or you don't. Otherwise your just a journeyman player. This was a straight release or waiver move for them. Easy call.

My question for Dallas is... You put all this money on someone who will most likely play "Right" Tackle or Guard?

I guess with Davis at Right Tackle vs. Left Tackle Tony Romo can adjust better to the oncoming pass rush in his face if he's looking in Davis' direction right after the snap.

Jerry Jones is wrong on this one. Edgerrin James probably carried Leonard Davis' bags for him to the airport just to make sure he was going to make the trip to Dallas.

Itis well known in people's mind but over-looked by a common NFL viewers mind: The line wins championships. It not exciting but its true. You can line any running back behing a good line and get 3+ yards per carry, and NFL caliber QB, give him time can complete a pass. When Teams with money who have had a problem with the line like the cowboys have a chance to spend it on someone they have to take that chance. Maybe a winning atmosphere (anything but arizona) will give him the attitide or maybe jone's ego of being able to "shape up" mentally weak players like that "great job" he did with T.O.made him think he could chage Davis. Who knows. 36 is a lot of beef and at least he takes up more space than the last gu ythey had.

To the poster above me: Yes lines do win championships, but as he was saying, Davis has done NOTHING other than have potential to merit getting any contract at all. He has been terrible his whole NFL career. I still like the signing for them just because he at least has a chance of being good, unlike theri previous signings Kosier and Rivera, but this signing is about as far from a sure thing as you can get.

You're right, but what else can these team do with so much cap space and a new rule that forces them to spend money. Plus the same thing always happens each year at the start of the free agency period. Teams always spend more each year. The only difference is that these guys are not the top guys at their position just lucky to be coming out at a time when the league can spend more.
