when you are not just talking about that person but a group of people or when you use words associated with racism in a negative way . But if I piss you off and you call me a b i t c h then that's not a slur just an insult

A slur is to insult as rooster is to c0ck. When someone insults you they "slur" you, and when someone "slurs" you their motive obviously isn't to give you a compliment, but to "insult" you.

In other words they are the same thing. If I called you a fat headed buffon, I would have both slurred and insulted you.
