could be prelabor if the contractions are stronger and more intense than previous ones I would call the doctor If not and she can carry on conversasions when experiencing one I would wait. Some women experience these anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks before they start active labor Good luck

I had that same problem! I was in labor, but didn't dilate at ALL for about 10 hours after being sent home from the hospital. Then, when it got so bad that I couldn't eat, and couldn't talk during contractions, I went into the hospital, and my daughter was born about 5 MINUTES later! So the best advice I can give, is get to the hospital, and tell them you're STAYING. good luck!

For first children, contractions should be about 2 minutes apart and REGULAR before going to hospital; unless of course, her water has broken. Then it becomes imperative to get her to the hospital to avoid infection. I also went to the hospital too early in my labor, stayed a few hours, and was sent home to continue laboring. Arrived in plenty of time to deliver safely. He'll be 18 in May!

Sounds exactly like what I went through yesterday. Right down to the 4 hour hospital stay. If her water hasn't broken and her cervix isn't "progressing" they won't let her stay (Mine was and is at 2cm and 60% effaced). They checked me for a uti and sent me on my merry (or...actually not so merry) way. Saw my doctor today and he said that it is a sign that actual labor is nearing.

sounds like active labor to me. If they are 5 minutes apart, and lasting nearly a minute and are getting stronger, I'd say it is the real thing. Time to head to the hospital! She's near enough to term that it shouldn't be a problem. If the contractions are getting farther apart, probable false labor.

You don't get admitted to the hospital until your cervix is dilated at least 3-4 cm. Since she isn't full term yet (37 weeks) and her due date is a few weeks away there's no reason to induce labor. Her contractions are probably Braxton Hicks if they aren't making her cervix dilate. Best of luck.

I went to the hospital when my contractions were 5 minutes apart lasting a minute. If her contractions are getting stronger take her back to the hospital. Sounds like real labor to me.

If they're 5 minutes apart, they last for 1 minute (58 seconds is close enough!!), and it's like that for one hour, it's time to go BACK to the hospital.
She is close enough to term that she could be in labor, and they won't try to stop her if she is. Good luck Grandma!!

Yes indeed and the hospital almost want you to have the baby before you get there. Waiting period. It will be over after while.
