I recently made the mistake of changing my computer's name in the Control Panel. And now I have to change it back but the problem is, I dont know what it was, because it was a lot of numbers. Is there any log that would keep this kind of information somewhere on the PC?

If you have not made many changes it may be in your registry. Try running start-run-regedit and look for the following keys (line up to AciveComputerName is one line)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SYSTEM\
ControlSet003\
Control\
ComputerName\
ActiveComputerName
You may have up to 3 old copies (001, 002 and 003) If you have made a lot of system changes, they will all have the newer name
Be aware though, unless you are using file sharing on your machine, or are part of a domain or active directory it should not make a difference if you change the name.
