i feel that today, well, society is going down the drain. now the population is becoming more savage and ignorant. if you read this and decide that a 14 year old shouldn't think this or should care, then i pity you because you are ignorant to the highest degree

I think that people are people no matter what the general picture seems to be. One reason we have such a bleak picture now is the instant communication and the fact that "bad" stuff sells better than "good" stuff. I just wish there was a tv or radio station geared to telling what's right with today's world. I think it would be hugely profitable because so many people are so very tired of hearing only the awfulness...I think we're just more open and honest than ever before and that it is good.

It is heartening to me to see someone your age stating the obvious, rather than hiding in video games and the other trappings that keep everyone's attention from our problems.

I have been seeing the decline for some time (I'm 51) and feel it stems from lax parenting coupled with fascination of celebrity that has taken society's eyes off the moral decay.

I think that government has gotten so involved with the power of their respective office and doing whatever it takes to stay in office that they do not do what is needed to make the country better.

I'll bet you feel frustration with trying to make sense of this and to see a way to make things better. Don't despair, but look to ways to make small changes that can lead to bigger steps.

In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. We no longer send boys down the mines, or girls to back street abortionists, and homosexuals are gradually gaining the equality they deserve... but on the other hand there is far too much yobbish behaviour and too little mutual respect, and education is deteriorating. Young people need to be reminded that life is about responsibilities as well as rights.
