while record levels of people are being made bankrupt or are in serious dept. Could this have happened under a Tory gov. with old Labour in opposition or vice versa?

Napoleon is said to have dismissed the English as a nation of shopkeepers! It took Margret Thatcher and her policies to make it a fact. Tony Blair masquerading as a socialist continued where she left of. The two of them allowed all our industry and the water and power companies to fall into foreign ownership. Unemployment may be low but most people earn little above the national minimum.Farmers receive such poor returns that families that have been in agriculture for generations are calling it a day yet the supermarkets continue to make huge profits and the political establishment amass large property and share portfolios. My answer is no this would not have happened under the parties of Churchill or Attlee.
