It's a test (popular with the North and East area of America) that students must take to submit to colleges in order to get accepted. Scoring is on a 2400 point basis, 600 basically are awarded for signing your name. It's a test of 3 sections: Verbal, Math, and Written Comprehension. Each section is worth 800 points. (Originally it was out of 1600 with only verbal and math, each 800 points, however it was recently changed two years ago).

The math section has up to pre-calc level problems in it, verbal includes various problems such as reading passages, definition questions, etc. If you need to take this, consider grabbing a practice book for the SAT - try the Princeton Review - and taking the PSAT (practice SAT).

An alternative test is the ACT (popular with the South and West)
