Stiff, immediate penalties against both the public official and the prviate person/company. And nothing baby-ish like the "possible $50 fine for smoking in an elevator."

I suggest something like 5 years in the State Penitentiary for a first offense, no matter the amount. Based on the bribery involved, a Judge can only INCREASE the time, no decreases.

I think that might make most be deterred from such illegal behavior.

Most corruption and graft is a result of the Congress power to right tax law. I suggest that the tax law require a two thirds vote in the Congress to make a change.

You start by putting term limits on every elected political job. You also build rules in like their not allowed to accept anything from anyone for any reason. That they are not allowed to except jobs from anyone that had anything to do with the government. You also make everything public they do, and only pay them for what time they spend on the floor doing their job, just like the rest of us. Make these things law with sever punishments when they break them.
And you vote them out when when they fail to do as the people want.
