I have a laptop and I want to be able to access the internet wirelesly, what do I need to but to do so?

Someone told me that I need to buy a wireless modem. I don't know anything about it or even if I have to pay another bill just to use it.

Most laptops these days already have a wireless modem built in so all you have to do is be near a public access wireless connection. However if you want to access it at home, you will need a wireless router...you can buy this at Best Buy. Generally it just depends on the price...if you already pay for DSL then it shouldnt cost additionally

There's a couple of things you need... first, either you laptop needs to have an internal wireless card or you need to buy one that will go into your laptops PCMCIA slot.
Second, you need a cable modem from your cable company. The modem and the hookup are free, but the internet is a monthly bill.
Third, you need a wireless router. This will hook up to your modem and provide wireless access and a few spaces for wired access as well.

It's a fairly easy process, get the modem from your cable company and you can go to any computer store and they will hook you up with everything else you need.

First of all you need a wireless network interface card. You can get these at any computer store. They are pretty easy to install and the box should explain it. Usually they run about 40 to 50 bucks. That will allow you to connect to wireless networks. You can find these in alot of public places like libraries, airports, internet cafes and so forth. If you want to get wireless at home, you need to buy a wireless router. These are also really easy to get from any computer store. If you have highspeed internet at home they are really easy to set up too. Just follow the direction in the box and you should be good to go. Good luck!

No You dont just buy a pci slot wireless card or linkyses has usb ones that work well thats what im useing. If you get your internet through quest they will send you a modem that broadcasts the internet for free while you use them and there internet services.

you need a card called wireless LAN card ... also known as 802.11 card .... if your computer has an inbuit 802.11 card you dont need anything else... just call your internet service provider and ask for the configrations.... otherwise buy 802.11 card from some computer shop its not expensive.... but 802.11 will only let you use internet wirelessly within your home...

If you want to use internet anywhere you like there are two options....
1.. you search some wireless internet service provider for your region and buy their service....

2.. get a mobile phone with GPRS support and connect it with your laptop using a cable and you can use internet on your laptop.... talk to your mobile service provider for details...

I prefer the second method cuz its usually cheaper....

If you have a Mac (good choice lol) then you can get airport which is a great wireless thing from apple.
and
If you have windows check out the Belkin Wireless utility, very useful, works like a charm.

I have both windows and Mac and I am using both those devices and have been for very long.

Most laptops come with wi-fi built in, but if yours doesn't you will need to buy a network card. Contact you ISP.

how new is your laptop?
Pretty much every laptop that has been created w/in the past 2 years comes w/ a wireless adapter built in. You probably just need to turn it on..
