Currentlly, my granddaughter lives with me. She just turned a year old. My daughter no longer lives at my house and goes weeks sometimes even months without seeing her daughter. I think that she is doing drugs and that she has a warrant for her arrest. I do not want her to show up one day and want to take my grandchild because I am afraid for my grandchilds safety. Is there anything I can do to get full custody of my grandchild?

You have to contact social services but I will warn you, they are picky people and when they investigate your house before the case goes to court and if they find one thing they dont like then they will take that baby from you and put her in foster home.

Sometimes a report to DCYF is the best way to go as they don't get their kids back until she has remedied her situation and she gets 18 months! Then DCYF can enter into a co-guardianship with you! That way you will have benefit of court orders and the knowledge that she can't walk into a probate court and ask for her child back! Under the law, she has abandoned her child!

Subsequently, DCYF can ask the courts to terminate her rights and as her guardian you would (99.9%) end up with her unless their were other issues!

Yes, go about looking into grandparents rights in your state. Document all your information. Pictures, letters, anything to help your case.

my best guess is to go to a child services facility and ask them how to gain custody according to your daughters behavior!
