and she's REALLY not exactly what anyone would call thin, but this seems to really bring her down... a lot. I try to reassure her and tell her that she's not fat, but I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall or something, because she never believes me, no matter how sincere I try to sound about what I'm saying. In a way, I don't really blame her, because most of our friends & I are on the thin side, so why should she listen to us? She asks us, "how could [we] understand what [she's] feeling?". We tell her that looks don't matter, but for her they do. It's not like she's going to develop an eating disorder or something, she just doesn't have much self confidence. So does anyone have any ideas about what I can say to have her take me seriously while boosting her self-confidence?

To us big people we do take our size a little over board. But people who are skinny no offense to you guys. But what you can do is tell her that you guys don't care what she looks like you guys love her for what she looks like. Tell her that you guys don't care at all. Your friends with her because of who she is. Not for her size.

If she really does have a weight problem, telling her she is thin, will actually not help.. I'm not saying to tell her she is fat, but she needs constructive re-inforcement. Why don't you organize to all go to the beach or the park on the weekends, play sports, have 'active' friendships.. If you are bored, call her up and ask her if she wants to go for a walk... Just getting out and about will help her to feel better.

Well you said a motuhfull when you said she wasnt thin.Obviously she is fat, maybe not whale size but bigger than she'd like to be.You also told her a whopper. You said "looks dont matter".Only if your blind lonely and desperate do they not matter.
Looks is what attracts people to one another, it's usually what starts a relationship and she KNOWS these things.Encourage her to work out.You want to be a real friend? Work out with her, and try to help her eat right, dont eat junk around her if you can help it and dont offer her any junk food. Also tell her to not worry about people not liking her, there will always be some who dont but there will always be some who will, remember that and be more outgoing.Look for those who WILL like you!

Go to the gym with her as a fun thing or you could find someway to exercise together to help her lose that extra weight.
And if that doesn't help you should tell her that she needs to be comfortable with who she is or NO GUY will ever like her because she will seem unsteady.
Maybe if she is comfortable with herself she will be more outgoing and some guy will like her for who she is not what she looks like or how "fat" she is!!!
Hope That Helped!!!

Give her a twinkie and tell her to shutup
she'll be stuffing her fat face and the room will be quiet for a bit
plus she'll be happy to get her grubby fingers on food
