No, you don't get to claim the actual expenses.

However, for each full or part time month in eligible post secondary education you are eligible for both an Education amount and Tetbook tax credit. The T2202 you receive from your school will show how many months you're eligible for. S11 on the T1 package will help you calculate all the amounts.

Books and supplies are not eligible expenses for the Hope or Lifetime Learning credits. If the expenses meet the rules to be employee business expenses, you might be able to deduct them if you itemize.
