The linebackers when I was on JV and Varsity as far as sophomores were about 5'10" 230 lbs and all could bench 225 fairly easily and squat 315.

Doesn't matter. What does matter is...how smart are you? The inside linebacker is the quarterback of the defense. His job is to call plays in the huddle and read offense. Pass or rush, strong side or weak side, what about the audible, what offense do they run and whats the scheme, and what are the tendencies of that team. If you can read offense then size isn't crucial.
Then again, if you're 5'2", and 120...good luck! Look at what they recruit for college. 6"2" or 6"3, 220 to 230, 4.7 at the 40. Speed isn't important as agility cause you run sideline to sideline with occasional pass defense.
Attitude is big! You want to be mean. If you don't like getting hit then play soccer. If you like to hit then knock the snot out of them. A tough guy will get a lot of attention from the coach when it comes time to assigning positions.
Come your junior year start to worry about how big you are, how much you lift. By your senior season you'll have a good idea. Brian Urlacher was 5'9" and 160 in high school. He's a hell of a smart linebacker. Bet you he was smart before big.
How do i know this to be true. I played linebacker my four years of high school. I was small my freshman and sophomore season...and slow. By my junior year I was 6' and 170. Senior year 6'2" and 200. Next year I'll be playing in the Big Ten. I was smart before I was big!

When I was a Sophomore, I played middle linebacker at 6'0", 190 lbs. benched 225 lbs. and squated 325 lbs. I felt pretty average. Not to say I kicked a little a$$ too. It all depends on your intensity. I coached JV football for a few years and one of my best linebackers was only a freshman at 5'8" and only 160 lbs. but he was a tough little bastard. Just work on your techniques and you'll do fine.
Oh yeah, joedog, if you're such a bada$$, why didn't you play football?

Right now I am a sophomore MLB. i am about 6 1 about 210 pounds. I bench 255 (almost 265) im not sure about my squat my right now but it was originally 345. And I still feel small!! you will always look at urself and find the flaws. But yes speed, power, attitude, and intelligence are very very important.
