If your periods aren't regular, it will be very hard to tell when you're ovulating, unless you monitor your fertility signs or use ovulation predictor kits. OPKs are available at most drugstores with the pregnancy tests. You can learn more about charting your fertility signs (basal body temperature, cervical position/texture and cervical mucous) from the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility or the website fertilityfriend.com.

Ovulation occurs for most women between ten and sixteen days before menstruation. You're only fertile for that very short window of time. Telling us when your last period is doesn't do much to help us help you know when your ovulation will be, because we don't know how long your cycle is. If you're using ovulation kits, you begin testing based on your shortest cycle of the last six months.

Sometimes irregular cycles are normal for people, but sometimes, they can indicate other health problems, so if you haven't already talked to your doctor about them, you might want to do that.

Irregular cycles are NOT an impediment to pregnancy in themselves. If you are producing adequate fertile cervical fluid, ovulating, have good progesterone and a long enough luteal phase, it doesn't really matter how irregular your cycles are. The key is knowing when YOU are fertile so you can time intercourse appropriately.

I highly recommend charting your fertility signs. Your chart can tell you when you are fertile, when you are not, when you are ovulating, when to expect your next period, and when to suspect pregnancy. Your chart can also tell you if there are issues delaying conception or causing difficulty w/ carrying a pregnancy and if there are serious issues which need a doc's attention.

Some good sources for charting your fertility signs: Fertilityfriend.com (free software as well as a pay-for version and on-line charting turorial); ovusoft.com (discussion boards for many fertility related issues, much info on fertility after the pill, and a very good software for purchase). The books Taking Charge of Your Fertility (associated w/ the the ovusoft website and software), The Art of Natural Family Planning, and Garden of Fertility

There is always the charting method using your Basal Body Temperature. You take your temp as soon as you wake up and chart it. There is usually a dip on the day you ovulate. Another thing that you can do is watch your cervical mucos. When you ovulate it gets to a stage called "Egg White Cervical Mucos" or ewcm for short. This is your most fertile period when this is happening. There are a lot of tools online to help with this or you can buy Ovulation Predictor Kits at a store. Based on the date of your last period you may have ovulated around the 26th-28th (this is just an estimated guess).

There are various methods to determine when you ovulate. You can buy ovulation prediction tests at the drug store. Another method is to track your temperatures. Take your temperature every day at the same time in the morning before getting up. When you see a significant rise, you will know you've ovulated. And yet another way to determine is to track your cervical fluid, which becomes clear around the time of ovulation.

I've vastly oversimplified the methods here, but if you are really interested, I'd recommend buying the book "Taking Charge of Your Own Fertility" by Toni Weschler. There are also websites out there that can help you, like fertilityfriend.com and ovusoft.com, but I think to truly benefit from them, it helps to get the book.

it depends how long your cycle is.. if it varies greatly then there is no way to know unless you chart your temps or use ovulation test kits. Your ovulation occurs 14 days BEFORE your next period.. if you have a 28 day cycle you ovulate on day 14, 29 days you ovulate on day 15, 30 days you ovulate on day 16, etc.
