It sounds like you have an electrical problem. Could be your ignition switch. It may land on a bad contact and lose all electrical function. Does it reset your radio stations or anything like that? If not electrical, Pontiac may have a kill switch that shuts it down when it gets too hot. What does your temp. gauge read when it shuts off? You may have to take it to a Chevrolet-Pontiac specific shop. Maybe they know something special in the Grand Am's.

I had my 1998 white V6 Camaro do this till now I have been given rid of it on 10/4/06 incredibly some circumstances. It even did that down the line 2 days till now on 10/2/06 whilst i replaced into doing approximately 60 mph.. till now that, it would do it to me regardless of if i replaced into making use of any style of velocity (20, 30, 40, 60, regardless of), whilst i replaced into idling, or maybe making a turn around a corner. in simple terms months till now I have been given rid of it, I did that as many as 4 or 5 circumstances on in simple terms one specific day. i think of the project could be something interior the engine or transmission. somebody informed me it must be some style of TPS change or regardless of that change is stated as interior the transmission. once you're conserving it for a on an analogous time as nonetheless, i might defintiely get it precise clinically determined if I have been you.

check the water level in the radiator, also check the oil level. If you car is running hot then it is NOT GOOD! You could end up burning up the transmission which will cost you 1-2k. If you are unsure how to do the above take it to a sohp, itll cost 50$ at most to look at it, good luck

Make sure that you have a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze and never put just plain water in the radiator or overflow. Alot of people make that mistake not realizing water boils and freezes. If not that, have them check your sensors especially your oxygen sensors. That's all I can think of at this time other than getting a radiator flush

its overheating, id try cleaning the radiatior then see what happens, sometimes they get dirt and crap in the screen which prevents good air flow
