This something that I have often pondered myself. But I have noticed that they often end up on the side of the road and pathways and so on. This has led me to the conclusion that they escape to go in search of adventure! It is not very exciting being a sock and their job description and place of work are not something that any of us would aspire to - only underpants could really envy them! In addition to their boring life and crappy jobs, they are also forced into an arranged partnership, no doubt dreaming of the sexy stocking in the next drawer!

With an existence like this, it is no surprise that so many socks make their break for freedom. The ideal opportunity to do this is during laundry. Socks make their escape from the dryer - a kind of payday for socks - and then head off to travel the world. When they are seen, they disguise themselves as rubbish to avoid recapture and reintegration into their former life.

And that is why we see so many socks on the side of the road! When you stop to think about their quality of existence, it is difficult to understand why more socks don't go missing! Or underpants!
