Tanning looks good...but yes it's very bad for you! If you do it too often, you will be at risk for skin cancer. I think that if you do it once, and lightly, it shouldn't hurt you that much...but it will wear off and I wouldn't suggest tanning again. I'd go to the beach this summer and get a natural one!! =)

I loved tanning when I was younger. From the time I was really young my mom would take all of us to the pool and by the end of summer I'd have a nice dark tan, which looked really good, but I knew wasn't healthy. I didn't tan every day or even once a week, but I still kept up my tan. When I was 16 I was told I had to have a tiny dark spot removed from my ankle just to be safe. It was pre-cancerous and they had to go back in and take off more skin because of it. Even though I didn't tan all the time it still gave me problems. Spending all that time in the sun and in tanning beds really has ravaged my skin. My shoulders are freckled, the skin on my face is unevenly toned, my hands are older looking and even though I'm only 25 I've already got noticeable wrinkles on my forehead, and I haven't tanned in 7 years.
A tan, regardless of how light, is your skin's reaction to being abused! The dark pigment that composes your tan is actually your body trying to repair damaged cells in the top layers of skin, damaged by ultraviolet light (found in sunlight and artificial lights in tanning beds). Skin cancer develops when those cells don't repair right, and instead turn into a growth, usually a dark patch like a mole or even a light colored patch of skin.
I wouldn't even risk a tan. It only lasts so long before you start aging prematurely, and even one burn raises your risk of developing skin cancer.
In many tanning places, they also offer something called Mystic Tan. It's completely sunless and safe. Check that out, you may be more satisfied with the long-term effects of that versus the effects you would get with ultra-violet tanning.

First of all, you should know that any ultraviolet rays can cause skin cancer as well as early wrinkling...now, going once a month won't get you a tan. You'd have to go at least 3 times a week for a month to get a nice tan.
If you're going on vacation, it's not a bad idea to tan a bit so you won't fry in the sun. But just to have a tan........no.
and it's addicting...

Absolutely not. Tanning is not good for your skin. You should probably research this elsewhere before asking your question here, you will find that it is bad for you, and not recommended. Lots of places are even not allowing minors to tan at all without a parent present, because it is so bad for you.

No not really. Tanning can make you look healthy and slimmer if you don't over tan, it is also known to help dry up acne. But it can definately cause skin cancer and if you do not wear eye protection you can damage your eyes.

there's no such thing as a "healthy" tan..........any tan not from a bottle is damaging your skin, and who knows what the chemicals IN the bottle will do long term...........
