Representatives serve 2-year terms and Senators serve 6-year terms.
They can be re-elected any number of times. The current record-holder in the House is former Mississippi Congressman Jamie Whitten, who was elected to a partial term in 1941, and then continually re-elected all of the way thru 1992, finally retiring in 1994.
Current Senator Robert Byrd is now in his 9th term in the Senate! If he lives out this entire term, he will have served in the Senate for 54 years!

Senator is elected in the U.S. for a term of 6 years. But if you look at the amount of time the majority of senators are in office it for life. It shows that once in the senator has an advantage over anyone running against him, he already has the contacts, the money and support from his voting record in support of money to keep them in office.
It time We the People changed how they may run, campaign for funds, and make it more equal, giving every runner the same level playing field.

A senator is elected to a six year term, a congressman serves a two year term. As for working, I doubt any of them put in a hundred days per year that are dedicated to doing their Constitutionally described job.

U.S. senators are elected every 6 years whereas U.S. representatives are elected every 2 years. Every representative is up for re-election every 2 years, but senators are staggered so that not all senators are up for re-election all in the same year. All elections occur in even-numbered years.

As long as he/she can in six years terms at a time. Reps two years. When they no longer are serving they go on cushy welfare for the rest of their lives.

A legislator's term is 6 years, but they can be reelected indefinitely, or at least until they're dead before they can get on the ballot.
