I left a company I had been at for 16 years because of a very chauvanistic and unreasonable, dumb boss. In fact 3 of the four women there left.

He is relocating, having a going away party and my BF wants to attend. I think in support of all the hell I went through he should pass on this party out of respect for me?

What do you think?

Oh and this guy is not his boss, he reports up a different chain, and frankly higher ups would not notice if he is there or not. I think he just wants the free drinks.

My BF works at the same company in case that not clear. There are frequent going-away, promotion parties etc. I only went to ones where I knew/liked the person involved.

Men have a totally different way of rationalizing things. He probably doesn't feel there is any relationship to his attending the farewell party and your dislike/disrespect for the honoree. You're probably right, he's just there for the free drinks. If his presence wouldn't really be noticed nor make much of a difference, why deprive him of some freebies?

Out of respect for you, he shouldn't go! If your old boss was being a chauvanistic pig (sounds like he was seeing that many people left) i think that he shouldn't go.

BUT there are free drinks, so you're going to have to offer your boyfriend something better than free drinks!!

maybe you should put your differences behind you for one night and get along with your boss just for that night i mean look at it this way after that night you will never have to see him again....hopefully but you should be celebrateing that his leaving you know ...and get some free beer lol..
