I don't think your ex can claim your inheritance, as long as you don't deposit it in a joint account.

Check with your attorney. It's possible the money can be held in escrow until the divorce is final.

Assuming you in England/Wales, getting divorced doesnt actually take that long, its what comes after that takes the time and the money. It all depends on how much you have to sort out financially and how much you argue over things, when this is all agreed you will sign what is called a Consent Order which is sealed by the court and sets out what is agreed between you and your ex. You need a really good solicitor to protect your inheritance. Perhaps Dad could change his Will and not include you.

Colorado makes you hold on for 6 months, I think. This is a 50/50 state in a divorce but your ex or not so ex can NOT get anything form your inheritance. Everything else is split down the middle. You get 1/2 your ex gets 1/2.
Call a lawyer Sometimes they will tell you where you stand without a charge.
Ask what your state law says.
Good luck & go be with your dad, He needs you now. If he asks tell him you are working on it & for him to just try to not think about such things.
Peace be with you & your family. ~;}

have you been serparated more than two years his your husband agreeing to divorce you? if not it depends on how long you been serperated, if your husband is contesting then this could be up to 5 years then it doesn't matter as i don't know the facts then there is one other way for a very quick divorce, go to your solicitor tell them in your life while being married to him that he abused you say to them i was a shammed but you need doument proof, or you can ring the police and say your husband is stalking you at the window that he knocked the door last night or to night say call the police get him arrested tell them he knocked the door and punched you if you did this every few days for 2 months you get out of your divorce in 6 months its your choice make the right one

New laws were introduced in the UK last year. You can be divorced in 6 weeks ! Mind you this is if there are no children under 16 involved. x

6 weeks I think!
Do you realise though, that an ex partner can claim anything from you in the first year of the divorce!
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but i do believe this to be true!
