I am 36 year old business consultant in a good paying job (6 figure salary). I hate what I do for a living and am tired of the grind of office life. I am looking to make a career change, but don’t begin to know where to start.

Any suggestions on how to approach a major career change and am I likely to be any happier doing it?

1) Start with you you like to do, what you're passionate about.
2) Make a list of what your strengths are (i.e., communication, selling, etc.)
3) Make a list of transferable skills from your current position that would apply to others.
4) Create job descriptions that best match your strengths, your interests and your past experience.
5) Find a way to network with people from your college alumni office about what you'd like to pursue as a future career.
6) Create a resume that reflects your future career path.
7) Land an interview, impress the interviewer with your knowledge as a business consultant.
8) Get hired, and enjoy our new career.

i know just how you feel, only worse. i'm 38 yrs old and stuck in a crummy factory job that works us to death, pays us peanuts, constantly threatens us with lay offs, and looks for reasons to fire us.

everyday i go into work, i get shouted at over things i have no control over and when i try to bring up suggestions, i get shouted at louder.

i guess what you should do is check your local career guidance councilers and they can offer suggestions and tell you the necessary steps to get there.
