That's kind of a degrading follow-up question. However, the answer is . . . the same value as any other subculture in American society. They are lawyers, doctors, teachers, entertainers, spiritual leaders, entrepreneurs, and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, they are also discrimated against. 20 years from now, people will look at that follow-up question and wonder what the heck you were thinking.

To test our ability to tolerate those who are different. As a society we are being judged by God and not looking very good. If God loves them, who are you to judge their worth. No, I am not gay but in my long career working in a flower shop I have known many who were bright, creative, loving, kind, tolerant, productive and moral. They just couldn't help being what they are. The little boy who grew up next door was gay from the time he could put his little feet into high heels. He had no choice in the matter at all. I've had so many tell me that there was no way on earth they would ever choose to live a life of rejection and torment as a gay if they actually could choose. Their only choice is to be gay or celibate. How are you doing with the celibacy? Shame on you!

In America we value personal freedom and personal expression above almost all other things. Gay americans add to our diversity and make great contributions to our society in the areas of music, art, literature, etc...

People with strong proclivities toward homoxsexuality are now able to contribute almost fully to American life and culture and education. They live in relative peace and harmony with their communities. A lot of people say that the goal is to "not judge others" and others say "if we allow this, what will we allow next?" both are wrong. We do judge others, and we as the majority of Americans have judged gays, and for the great majority of us, our judgement has been, and I believe will continue to be, that their particpation in our society is fully compatible with our way of life.

As to "what will we allow next?" that question is still to be answered, and we as a society will make that judgement together based on our shared values as a whole. I doubt bestiality or child molestation will ever be judged as compatible, as many anti-gay bigots contend.

Straight and gay people learning to value each other's individuality teaches our society how to deal with differences and improves our ability to peacefully coexist with others who are different than us, such as other cultures, etc... This gives us a tremendous adaptability as a culture, and allows us, for example, to absorb immigrants without our country falling apart, to resolve differences within our own culture without resorting to violence, and enter into interdependent relationships with other countries with much more ease than many other societies. This pays benefits in Business, Science, and Diplomacy.
