I think we can agree that hemp does not improve one's spelling.
The fact is, there are no alternative energy sources. The USA consumes 50 million barrels a day. Solar and wind can only supply a fraction of this demand. Hydroelectric can produce signficant amounts of energy; however, there is now huge environmental opposition to dam construction. Furthermore, the drier climate (man-made or otherwise) is an issue.

Nuclear energy has the potential massive power output to meet the demand of a modern society, but it is an extremely complicated technology and people just aren't smart enough.

Hydrogen is NOT a source of energy; it is an energy storage medium, much like a battery. There are no hydrogen wells equivalent to an oil well. Hydrogen must be generated by applying electricity to water. (not to mention the water shortage issues)

As an individual, there is very little that we can do to solve our energy crisis, to think otherwise is delusional. Collectively, we could make a huge difference if we utilized some of the ways we already know of to limit oil/fossil fuel consumption. The question is, why does our government insist on making us dependent on foreign oil when the technology is out there for hydrogen fuel cells and "green" or "clean energy"?

I'm not sure the US will ever get serious about facing off against corporations. It seems anything they do is capitalist, therefore good these days. Corporations will fight anything that solves our energy crisis. I love this idea which is to be produced in a number of countries-but not the US. They're working on a generator as well.

By the way, in the past, I owned a car that got 50 mpg yet today hybrids are lucky to get that. Do you think the auto companies want us to get great gas mileage?

People need to get very loud about this!

designers and engineers start developing so that the average person does not have as much use for a car as they do now. It needs to be made some how where driving a car or truck is not a status thing or a nessessity for most people. People living far out will need one but those in largr places can get around and rent a car if needed. Make travel by rail and such a lot more convientent.

The only way for it to be completely solved is for us all to find a cave to live in, then go hunting for food instead of going to a grocery store and spending money we don't have. Then putting
the muscles we have to work, gather just enough firewood to keep warm. Forget about a leader it's every man for himself!
