What is the realistic probability that human beings will ever be able to colonize other planets?

Do you think that the only way humanity will survive is if we colonize space?

We could colonize now if we were to follow Robert Zubrin's suggestions.

In the near future, we will colonize and terraform Mars first. It will be comparatively easy, there will be billions of colonists in 200 years. Then we will terraform Venus and Callisto next, and they will be difficult.

We either colonize other planets or go extinct.

Given time, yes.

Centuries from now, who knows - we might be not only colonizing other planets, but traveling to other solar systems and discovering other civilizations. Think Star Wars. The universe is so massive, who knows what is out there - and with human technology advancing, we'll no doubt advance to the point of space travel being routine.

The only planet humans could realistically colonise would be Mars, and I think a permanent base on Mars is only a century or two away.

Humanity might only get a stay of execution by colonising space (on planets or in space stations). Inevitably, though, humans will become extinct.

This is the science section, not the fairy tale section. Why does everyone insist on beleiving this crap and forcing it on others with absolutely no proof to back it up.

How do you know that there are no other planets out there that are like earth. Did your god tell you that all the millions of known and unknown planets are not habitable. Seems like god wasted a lot of space just to make 1 planet for life. Isnt that a little ineeficient for an omnipotent being?

First, the living conditions have to be right in order for us to survive, and we need the resources on that planet. It's not going to survive any way.

I think so. Mars will probably be a permanent residence location in a century or so.

NO. If you belive in God then you should know God made this planet with the right conditions for humans to survive. No other planet comes close to these set conditions.
