The best thing to do is get some strong scissors and make a hole big enough to fit a few fingers in.
Then just rip that hole and pull at the ends of the ripped edges.

A good way to make real looking holes is to CAREFULLY take a serrated knife (like a steak knife) and run it back and forth acoss the jeans where you want the holes to start. Don't try to saw through the fabric. It will break down the threads and after a few washings the fabric will start to unravel. I did this while wearing the jeans and in a while had cool holes that had a single layer of white threads.

For a more authentic worn out look, use dull scissors to cut. Sharp scissors make clean cut and you'd want to avoid any semblance of perfection. Also cut like you're a kid not like a surgeon --- think chaotic, not precision.
After you've made the cut, wring the fabric (kinda like the motion you do when you hand wash). The purpose of this action is to let loose the edges for a totally frayed look.
Repeat above steps in strategic places until you're satisfied that you have enough holes.
Voila! You now have cool-looking pants that other people actually paid obscene money for.......and all you did was follow instructions.
SMILE!

You could probably drag a pair behind the car a bit. My sister would get some jeans put them on and sit in hot water in the tub to shrink them to her body. After it dried, she'd get a large knife and drag it across the fabric while on the ground. Not cutting it, but just braking up threads a bit. Hope that helps.

I use a blade and scratch the jeans horizontally. Be careful not to cut it all the way, just start scratching softly until you see white thread. That way you will know when to stop.

If you just want them worn down you can use sand paper. Or if you don't want a clean line, like with scissors, use something with a fine point, like a pen, and poke a hole in them then rip it from there how big you want it.

Know how my jeans got holes? I fell down.
Do NOT buy them ripped...it's expensive and retarded. Just make a small slit and use your hands to rip it open.
Other than that, just fall down alot.

you can just pick where you want the hole to be and if u wat to make it easier just draw what ever shape that you are going to do and then cut them in that shape. If it's a circle you have to put the scissors in the middle of the circle and then cut in that shape. Its pretty easy, give it a try
