For example, I love punk music a LOT. And I also like rap, reggaeton, & hip hop, but mostly punk. I have had people ask me "Why do you like punk and shop at Hot Topic and Aeropostale? You're Hispanic, not white." And, "Why do you listen to rap and shop at Baby Phat, you're Hispanic, not black."
Does this make any sence to anyone out there???

Uh yeah, No Bs, how does that answer my question?
And Carlos Mencia makes fun of EVERYONE, including his own race.
And no Hispanics I know go around blaming "whitey".

It's because the majority of a certain group may follow a certain trend. You are being an INDIVIDUAL. I see nothing wrong with that.

I can understand totally. I get this all of the time, I love emo/punkand goth I get so much crap about it... like I'm not white, and I shop at Hot Topic, I don't like rap or hip hop and people are ahocked by this... I also am a big fan of DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse comics, but that isn't really a female thing.... I'm just a misfit.

Because people are ignorant. I guess I am supposed to go shop at A and F and eat cheese sandwiches like a good little white girl, but I like alot of world music and I study languages of all sorts. I also like Mind of Mencia, which shocks some people. No matter what people say to you, you should always be who you are and like what you like.

I usually hear these things from people just can't think outside the friggin' box!
It's annoying at times but it also makes me feel good because I don't fit into any particular label or group. I'm black and I absolutely hate rap, I can tolerate some r&b, but I love classical music and rock n' roll. I love the fact that I don't let labels decide my interests.
It's a sign of a strong, independent person.
If they want to fit into a mold, they can. I rather enjoy the view from outside.

Your question is 'stated wrong' ... you should have asked "Why do people think that your interests should depend on your race?" rather than your 'race' depending on your interests.
But you are 'correct' in thinking that your 'race' really should have NOTHING to do with your interests ... you are an INDIVIDUAL and should be PROUD OF THAT ... so 'ignore' those 'small minded people' who think race does 'determine interest.'

people are narrow minded and often trap themselves into shallow stereotypes that's why very few get to experience and appreciate the beauty and wonders of other races.
