The reason the poster said "South Africa (The country)" is because many ignorant people don't even know there is a country called SA. When you tell them you're from South Africa, They say which country in South Africa? The reason Americans have wooden houses is because they keep warmth in much better during the winter. Also they have an abundance of wood. Brick houses are much superior though.

Is there any other place known as South Africa ???

And to answer your question, no we don't even know what houses are. We live in the bush, and the ones that are more privileged live in caves. The poor people use donkeys as transport and the rich have cheetahs.

The closest we've come to civilization, is having shoes made out of leather, i.e leopard skins, and the like.

We use smoke signals to communicate and dance around a fire everytime we discover something new, like a river for water, etc. etc. etc. (naturally this involves a half naked teenage boy beating a drum in the background).

It's 2007.

Your ignorance amazes me. EVERYONE knows what the homes in South Africa look like. Did you even show up for class in high school? There should have been ATLEAST an entire day dedicated to the discussion of South African housing. I mean, after all it is SUCH a huge world power these days! My teacher cut out a whole lecture on the Nazi haulocaust just to make sure that we had enough time to discuss South Africa!

Yes, we have homes!

South Africa's urban areas look much like any other city, though there are areas around every city where poor people who have migrated to the city live in shacks (shanty towns).

Progress on eradicating shack dwelling has been frustratingly slow and is not helped by the continual tide of rural-urban migation.

In the rural areas people live in houses or huts.

There are 2 great photographic books called "Shack Chic" and "Mud Chic" by Craig Fraser and Sindiwe Magona which will give you a lot of insight.

Of course not, Johannesburg, the hub of the highest producing gold mining area in the world, with more people than New York City, is entirely made of caves. By the way, we dig the gold with our bare hands coz we don't have shovels yet. We also house our nuclear power station in a cave. And we launched our satellites, orbiting earth, from a clearing in the jungle. We produce the high tech weaponry we export to Sweden and China in a big grass hut. Europeans have been here since the mid-1600's but we still haven't managed to build houses.
So here I sit under the African night sky, typing my message to you on my diezel-computer
Do you folks in america (the country) have houses yet?

Yes - we do stay in houses, properly built with bricks and cement. We have tarred roads, nuclear electricity, one of only a few countries with drinkable tap water.

There is people staying in houses of millions of dollars and there are people staying in shacks.

We drive normal cars - BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Audi ect.

We use cellphones

And as you surely found out we have computers with excess to yahoo.

Our buildings are so advanced that our president is spending 15 million us dollars on his security fence.

I hope this answers you question, next time pop out the door and smell the real world.

You bet buddy, and they're brick houses layered with cement. In fact, i live in cape town where there are skyscrapers, lots of hotels and shopping centres, an international convention centre- its a big city. Contrary to popular belief, we DONT live in between wild animals etc.
