Ecological breastfeeding is a highly effective form of breastfeeding BUT there are rules, and if you fail to follow them then of course it will not work properly:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecological_Breastfeeding
Lactational Amenorrhea Method has less rules and is slightly less effective but still very effective:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactational_Amenorrhea_Method
If you combine LAM/Ecololgical breastfeeding with withdrawal (which has a success rate of 96% among married couples if used properly) then you are pretty well covered, but god doesn't give out certain.

I know of 4 women that have gotten pregnant while breastfeeding. 2 of them were on the "mini pill" and still got pregnant. Take as many precautions as you can if you don't want to get pregnant.
P.S. They have all survived having babies close together.

No, it is not true. You can definitely get pregnant while breastfeeding. Condoms will protect you, but if you prefer the pill, then talk to your doctor about options that are safe while breastfeeding, as many are not.

You know what a mom gets when she uses breastfeeding as a form of birth control?
another baby!
Many women think it works, because some of them dont have periods while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding as a form of birth control is a total myth.
Ask your doctor about Mirena. Its safe while breastfeeding, and is the safest and most effective form of birth control on the market. Your chances of pregnancy are less than if you were to have your tubes tied. BUT, Mirena doesnt hurt your fertility like the pill, patch, ring, shot, etc. When you get it removed, you are capable of having a baby again right away. And like I said, its very SAFE.

You are unlikely to get pregnant (though it is not impossible) while breastfeeding early on (like during the first couple of months). As your infant's need for milk lessens you may begin to ovulate again and become pregnant without realizing you are cycling.
There are many women who end up pregnant again sooner than they expected because of this wives tail.

WRONG- you may not get your period for months while you are breastfeeding but you can ovulate and you can get pregnant... you might not.. but you might.. so if you don't want another child right away.. play it safe.. the health nurse informed me that for that method to be effective you would have to breastfeed every 2 hours 24/7 and never miss. (my baby is now 8 weeks old) but if you are open to another baby right away... why not.. but it's best to play it safe even when you are not having your period.. the first time i breastfed it was between 3 and 4 months before i got my period.

In many communities it is believed that lady shall not conceive till she is breastfeeding. This also serves natural way of spacing children.

It is 100% false. Breastfeeding offers no birth control. And it is a lot easier for you to get pregnant right after having a baby than at any other time because your body is still adjusting.
