Does anyone find movies like Saw, Hills have Eyes, Hostel etc etc scary???None of them movies did much for me. I feel like the over the top gore and brutality takes away any suspense from the film.

No, they aren't scary at all. They have those little "something around the corner" jump moments, but that ain't horror. If they aren't going to bother with a plot or characters that I give a damn about (making their deaths more personal), then I won't connect.
Unfortunately, teenagers (and their $$) will. So they keep coming.

These movies are like pornos, the story and dialogue is just to get you to the next gore/booty fest. 10 years from now, snuff films will probably be the mainstream horror movies

Hostel and Saw are just plain stupid.
That's why the Hollywood guys have been remaking Japanese Horror films. Only M. Knight Shamalhan can make a movie suspenseful.
What gets people going is a challenge to their senses and beliefs. Like "I don't believe in ghosts". Then they see a movie that gives them a familiar feeling that they can't explain.

I tend to agree.

I literally just turned Wolf Creek off after a series of brutalities. I take turning off a movie before its credits very seriously and while I consider myself a fan of horror movies, if the gore is the central attraction, as opposed to the story, actors, scenes or plot - that's not saying much.

Their is no such thing as excessive gore. Sorry that it takes away the suspence for you, but it shows the sickness of the world like the way Jigsaw is.Without gore, what would be so stomach-turning about movies anyway?

I liked the first "Saw" it was more psychological than scary.

Sometimes it's best to leave something to ones imagination than to just splatter gore all over the screen..

It's just a lazy movie that does that.

In a way, it does. But movies such as the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre are brilliant because the concept is frightening, but they're not filled to the brim with blood and gore, and leave more to the imagination.

I agree,
I saw Sin City last night (mild but still bloody) and couldn't find any semblance of a plot.
I can't watch some of them because- well why? I can turn on the local news if I want to get freaked out.
