How to tell if a freezer self defrosts?

I just got a standing Kenmore freezer from someone and I need to know how to tell if it is a self defrosting freezer. It is from the 70's(by the look of it, the inside of the door is green) and if it makes any difference it has a lock on the door.. Thank you

If you can hear a fan running inside the freezer, then it is self defrosting.

If the aluminum tubes inside get covered with ice and "frost" over time, then it is not self-defrosting. The best way to test it is to use it...
