It runs great and I want to keep it for many years. How often should I have my transmission fluid changed, or for that matter, have the transmission purged?

it depends what your driving style is.if you drive in heavy traffic,in hot weather,or pulling a trailer,or driving in hilly country,then i say have the oil and filter changed more often,but if its just normal driving,like interstate and short trips,then you dont have to do it too often.
check your owners manuel,it should tell you when you should have it serviced.

Follow the manufacturer recommendations- they built the car and know it best. Check your owner's manual.
