Let's say you start your period on March 5. You would count March 6th as day 1 of the 28-30 days.

The cycle is counted from the first day of your period. This is also why sometimes when a woman goes to the dr such as if pregnancy is suspected they will ask for the first day of her last menstrual period.

The first day starts on the day your period starts.
So if you start today, 28 days from today you will start again.
