okay for hairstyles im not sure (i am not good with hair)
but i think i can help you with the rest
hollister- always in, try a graphic tee or something else from there
skinny jeans- not out (if you can wear them right)
Also shop at american eagle and wet seal two of my favorite stores
get some cute jeans skinny or bootcuts and a graphic tee, sweater or sweatshirt from there
when you shop be yourself, and find out what your style is and what you think would look good.
if you shop at american eagle, wet seal or hollister, you cant really go wrong with something you get so just have fun shopping

The boho chic look may still be in style as per Mary-Kate Olsen. Though the overtly casual look is the best and most popular look I've seen. That rough rugged look with the careless amount of effort that appears to have been put into it seems to be popular at least on my college campus- you want the expensive ripped jeans and vintage 80s shirt, but a layered hairstyle or just dishelved chic in order to make it appear you threw your ensemble together haplessly- long slender black boots are also quite the addition. Though I think fashion nowadays reflects individuality and simplicity in our internet age and what is popular is whats comfortbale- whether it's a pair of reef flip flops, vans sneakers or jimym choos- peoples outfits these days just look like a simple sense of self expression

Girls are actually slipping back into 'girly' fashions, with all the leggings and skirts. Try devilish layers, like tank-top, over another tank-top, over shirt. Try something girlish, and at the same time, rebellious (think- good-girl faker). As for the hair, try messy braids, or something. Keep it long though. You don't want to chop it off only to have bangs come into style.
Yes, Hollister/Am. Eagle/ Aero/Abercrombie/Hot Topic/ Claire's are all in style.
(P.S., buy second hand classic jeans and WRITE ON THEM! Be your own fashion expert!)

it's good that you're not trying to fit in. i wasted my money on Polo/RL for a good ten years trying to fit in through college and then some after the fact. then i blew a bunch of money on hilfiger. the former was a better choice, but the more i looked at it i was only copying the names, not so much the styles. but i kept buying the names because i thought that was the way to go because the quality would be better. it typically isn't; you'll find store brands and "off" brands from other companies that have their stuff made in the same sweatshops that those higher priced labels are whose quality is just as good.
as i got into my 30s my style was something entirely of my own creation, and i no longer was chic, according to kids half my age or 20 something, but even others the same age i was or older? it just sort of happened on it's own. i wasted a lot of time and money trying to dress like everyone else, but i could never quite get it the same way that they did. these days i just do whatever i want to do; i'll buy from anywhere, from any label or designer and wear it exactly the way i want to wear it. i stopped looking at the magainzes for ideas and just took it to see what the new collections were like, and i don't even do that any more.
do your own thing; if you're cool everyone will want to dress like you anyway, if you're not people may think you're weird, or different, which isn't a bad thing because being either you can actually meet people that are more interesting than you would have if you were stuck in that "in" crowd. about the best that it gets, is to be in that 'in' crowd and be able to look out at everyone and fraternize freely when they're stuck in mediocrity without fear of what those so called friends think of you.
one more thing; i'm a pack rat, so i still had stuff in my closet from my earlier college days. having moved like 4 times since then and leaving clothes behind forced me to buy new stuff and start over when i normally wouldn't. rather than try to replace that designer clothing i tried out something new and different. eventually i just got tired of looking at the same stuff and wanted something different. i don't really have a style anymore, but i think it's good to clean out the closets once a year or so and start over. give your stuff to goodwill, particularly if you're the type whose only worn something like 4 or 5 times or you launder it every single time you wear it. sell your old stuff on ebay if you can get any money off of it. start over; it's great for style and keeps you focused and pushes you forward ...
