But it is a skirt!
Trousers are trousers
Shorts are shorts
The kilt isnt adapted in anyway to make it not look like a skirt.

Dianne sorry to say but your very wrong there!
Transvestites dress up as a woman ie: wig, shoes, make up, fake boobs.
What im talking about is crossdressing something totaly different, yes its wearing "womens" clothes but i dont want to be a woman of look like one.
I like the clothes so i want to wear them.
Its like saying that all women have to wear skirts and not trousers because trousers are mens clothes!

wear what you want, nobody is bothered about what you wear, dont think you would be all that important to other people - put on a bra as well if you like.

A kilt is cut different from a skirt. There are laws stating the minimum of cloth that goes into making it. Could you wear a mini made of 9 yards of cloth?
There are also standards of dress. Frankly I think some people would think you were taking the piss if you wore a mini and you might not like that.

I have seen Scots wear kilts and they look dashing in it too. It is not a skirt by the way.
Skirt... or a sarong - well go ahead. Some of us may laugh while some of us won't even bat an eyelid. Edinburgh is full of culture and all wakes of life... especially during Tourist seasons.
Once had a friend walk up the Royal Mile during the festival season in the nude and no-one blinked! A couple of tourists came up to him to ask for directions.
Go ahead wear a kilt, a skirt or just go in the buff (nude).

Some years ago. I was invited to a big 'do' in Stirling Castle. One of the stipulations was that all men had to wear the kilt and all ladies were to wear the appropriate dress.
Not being Scottish made no difference; there is a tartan for every clan imaginable and when I got to my hotel in Edinburgh, the vestments were all laid out on our beds, hired from a local shop.
Needless to say, as Sassenachs (query the spelling) we felt a little embarrassed but as all men were in kilts, our blushes were spared.
What an evening we had. Something to remember.

You might attract a bit of mockery wearing a miniskirt but a mini-kilt would be acceptable. A kilt is not the same as a skirt, the cut and styling of a kilt is quite distinctive.

Anyway dear, you can't really wear you kilt skirt sarong in Scotland...
Your must have scottish blood running in your veins, or be married to a scot.
Each colour and pattern of a kilt is referencial to a specify Clan. Mc gregor, mc kinnley etc.
So... wear a kilt and you could be laughed at!

When I was in Edinburgh last summer, I saw several men in kilts, and they looked GOOD! However, the idea of a man walking around in a mini skirt is not at all exciting. Wear whatever you like, though. You have no one to please except yourself.

The Tartans are protected patterns ("copyrighted" if you like) so if you're in Scotland and you are not a member of the Clan who's colours you are wearing then you may get into trouble. They might think that you're taking the piss.
Try it in England and most sensible people would either think you were a Scot (if they didn't know the Tartan) or ignore it (provided your knees aren't offensive).
If you behave like a git (and "insist on your rights" in inappropriate circumstances) then you'll probably get duffed up wherever you are.

Why would you want to wear one in the first place? no-one here wears kilts unless its for a new year party or something like that, with today's weather I would wear heavy trousers and a warm jumper and take an umbrella.

It's only a skirt if you wear something under it, dear. Otherwise, it's a kilt.
