"The world is not to be put in order; the world is order, incarnate. It is for us to harmonize with this order." This is not a request for help in homework. I am really genuinely interested in your interpretation. There are no right or wrong interpretations, but serious, sensible answers are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

The world is OK. It is we who are out of sync.

That's BS. I'm not interested in "harmonizing with the order of the world". To me, that's not real life. That's not living. I'd rather harmonize with the Holy Spirit and God Incarnate.

I think Miller is saying that all too often we tend to be oblivious the way things work in the world. We try to strike a path across the grain of the "natural order" of things, and in the process mess things up (including ourselves) but good.
Man trying to "conquer nature" is quite a joke--nature is always too powerful for us. But when we are in harmony with the world, all we really need in life is right there for us.

The Buddhist view sees the universe as being perfect. All we need do is realize, or recognize this as fact.

When we do this we essentially harmonize ourselves with this truth.

The western world view sees the world as broken and in need of fixing.

Seeing thing in this light leads one down a path that is both exhausting and full of disappointment.

In this quote he is teaching the reader that what we perceive as control is an illusion. We cannot control the way the world functions, for it functions as it always has and always will regardless of our existence. The only way for us to function in harmony with our world is to let go of our need to control, our need to organize and categorize and manipulate. To put it simply, he is telling us, "Just go with the flow".

That is my interpretation anyway.

Hey, good job, I wish i could be interested in these things.

I think it means that we are supposed to let things fall into place. Not to force things. That we will have problems and that if we go by how the world intended, we would be just fine.

The universe has certain laws which Miller thinks should not be fooled with (and thus far havent been fooled with). We have to live with it.

I see quite a bit wrong with that, but thats what it means.

We do not control the world. The world controls us.

It would be in our best interest to fully utilize what is, rather than try to change everything.

to me it means we need to stop trying to fix and/or change the world. we need to accept mother nature as she is and just learn to work with her not against her.
