Is it true?

I am originally from Alabama, and I will tell you.
Honestly, it's not more prevalent, but the white folks in the South are just too un-sophisticated to hide their racism. It's a very backward and provincial part of the US.
It's very sad to be there.I've not visited in 24 years. The black people there are still very bogged down and afraid, although there are exceptions.
Good luck.

Racism exists everywhere, but living in Mississippi I still believe that it is more prevalent just like it was in the earlier days, some people just cover it up a little bit better. It still exists in our schools, in trying to get jobs, and the simplest things and places as in restaurants. Believe it or not my family and I went out to a Chinese restaurant and we were seated at the back of the restaurant where other African Americans were and we were seperated from the whites and we watched the hostesses as they sat the customers and they continued the pattern of sitting the blacks to the back and the whites up to the front until people started telling them where they wanted to sit, so it's not only whites and blacks. But their are so many unjustices that take place with racism down here, and being young and seeing it all, it hurts and is confusing and I don't think anyone will ever understand it unless they are exactly in the position and have that history....but it's all the more reason to come up strong and beat it!

No, that is a stereotype. I have lived in several southern states and a couple of northern states. And the racism is about the same no matter where you go. In fact, I can honestly say that I've met more racists in New York city than anywhere else I've been. Talk to someone from an Irish neighborhood in the Bronx or Brooklyn, or someone who's Italian or Russian from Staten Island. 9 times out of ten they're the biggest racists you'll ever meet.

If you go to Mississippi or Georgia you will see more equality and interracial couples than you will anywhere else. I have worked in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, and North Carolina as well as ten northern states and believe it or not the north is a lot more segregated and seemed more racially biased. I would give you the name of the most segregated state but there is no need to offend anyone.

I live in the south (NC) and have traveled a good deal. I think it is just about the same everywhere. In some areas it is more open than others, but just as real. Diversity has made a good deal of progress in the south, but it seems that not much has changed in the north. It all evens out.

I dont think rascism is limited to just the south. I think its everywhere. I used to live in California and I ended up having to move because the kids at my school, in my class hated me. There was only 3 or 4 white kids and we got bullied and beat up just because we were white. Mostly it was me that got picked on because I was white and little chubby. It was really just puppy fat, which I lost when I had a growth spurt a few months later. We had the option of leaving the state or else pressing assault and battery charges, along with sexual assault, and threats with a deadly weapon. So I think rascism is everywhere, not just in the south.

Of course not. There are just as many racists in the north. By the way Croa it's better to keep your mouth shut and let everyone think that you are a fool than open it and remove all doubt.

i have seen a lot of it myself and have a lot of family in nearby mississippi

but
i have heard that there is more in the north simply because there arent as many black people there.
this kinda makes sense because someone who lives in the south will at least have to get used to the presence of black people. look at a map of the united states' ethnic diversity by county, and you will see that the biggest concentration of african americans is in the southeast
i have a bit of a hard time believing that the north is worse than the south though.

you would think that because of history and how racism was stronger in the south. this isnt saying the north wasnt racist aswell. the south was just so much more passionate about it. based on history i would say this is true. but today i dont think its as big of an issue as it was back then. needless to say racism still exists and its horrible.
