I bought a new dryer and when I plug it up it does not work, a multi meter was used to check and make sure the dryer is getting the correct amount of amps but the dryer will still not work. We've had 3 dryers(the same kind) from Lowes and none of them work so we had to send them back. When Lowes checked them they worked. So why wont they work in my house?

Like I said, we've had THREE dryers already out here. None of them work in my house.

The wire size is too small and it wont take the load of these newer higher wattage dryers. What happens is there is a voltage drop sufficiently large so that the solenoids and electronics will not work, thus the dryer will not function even though the circuit breaker remains in tact.

See if Lowes has a low wattage dryer that you can exchange this one for.

your house is haunted or lowes is lieing why would you keep going back to a place where you have had bad luck before did you make sure the door is shut all of the way sometimes the inside of the dryer door has a little thing-a-mag jig that when you shut it fits into a hole on the dryer and it turns it on make sure the door is closed all the way, is there a button on the front you need to push after you set the time and temp?

First of all, your not checking amps. You'r checking voltage. I'm suprised Lowes took it back without sending out a tech. One dryer defective maybe. There's no way three are bad. Call an electrician.

Who installed the plug on the dryer? Was it wired into the dryer correctly ? Is it a 3 wire plug or 4 wire plug? Getting 220 across both hots?

The odds of you getting three bad dryers from Lowes is like a penny in the wind.

Dryers with 220V connectors require 220 volts not 110./ or it wont work.

Make sure that you test both legs of the socket to make sure you have 110v on each leg...there are two of them and one ground.
If you have two hot legs...that dryer will work.

Forget the multi meter. Find some one who can use one. If you think you need a pro then have an appliance repairman tell you what is wrong. I'll bet its not the dryer at fault.

From the info you have given, my thought, did you watch Lowes turn on the dryer`s? I am thinking you are not using the magic touch on the switch.

I see you have gotten all sorts of answers and nobody has suggested you check the VOLTAGE between the two hot leads, you might have 110 on each leg to ground or neutral, but they may be both hooked to same side of your power box...so you effectively have 0 volts where you should have 220....Nuf Said

Do you have the right outlet for the dryer to run. Not all dryers run off the same wattage. I bet you you need to upgrade.

I had to upgrade to accommodate my new dryer.
