The Foo Fighters. They didn't even know Prince was going to sing it at the Superbowl Halftime Show.

foo fighters
there are rumors that he did it because the foo fighters did a version of Prince's Darling Nikki a couple years ago and he did not want them to do it but they did anyway. so i guess he jus did theres.

FOO FIGHTERS were confused but happy about PRINCE cover during the Superbowl

"Dude, I have no idea why he did it, but I'd love to find out," Hawkins laughed. "I mean, the thought went through my head that maybe he was doing it as a sort of 'F--- you' to us, or maybe he really likes the song. Either way, it was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs — and actually doing it better than we did." He added that he was completely taken by surprise at a Super Bowl party. "I was watching the game at our producer Nick Raskulinecz's house, and since he's doing the new Rush album, all the guys from the band were there," he told MTV. "I mean, I'm outside smoking a cigarette with [Rush drummer] Neil Peart and someone sticks their head outside and goes, 'Uh, dude, Prince is doing your song.' "

It's the Foo Fighters' song.

Here was his entire setlist...as you can see, he played a number of covers:

*We Will Rock You intro - Queen
*Let’s Go Crazy - Prince
*1999 (short interlude) - Prince
*Baby I’m a Star - Prince
*Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
*Baby I’m a Star - Prince
*All Along the Watchtower (brief) - Jimi Hendrix (Bob Dylan original)
*Best Of You - Foo Fighters
*Purple Rain - Prince

The Foos didn't know Prince was going to perform it. "I was watching the game at our producer Nick Raskulinecz's house, and since he's doing the new Rush album, all the guys from the band were there," he said. "I mean, I'm outside smoking a cigarette with [Rush drummer] Neil Peart and someone sticks their head outside and goes, 'Uh, dude, Prince is doing your song.'...It was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs — and actually doing it better than we did." — Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins

The Foos covered Prince's "Darling Nikki" on their "Have It All" single in 2002.
