Suppose that all drugs are legalized (marijuana, cocaine, heroin, etc...) What negative effects will there be on the economy in the short run and long run? What counter arguments can be raised and how can we deal wtih them?

I don't know, but here's the real answer to the problem. The government sets up asylums for addicts. You can do all the drugs in there you want, and they'll be sold to you at cost. You just gotta sign up. Now if your caught with them outside the asylum, you get life. That would drive down the price, get druggies off the street, decrease all varieties of crime, and put the pushers out of business. Nobody can stomach the idea of the gov getting into the drug business, but thats the way to win the war.
