Byrd was too busy cutting eyeholes in his pillowcases and burning crosses. Just couldn't fit it into his schedule.

Byrd was never a grand wizard but he was active in the KKK and famously objected to President Truman’s integration of the armed services as well as to President Johnson’s pushing of the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s. White Southern Democrats (Dixiecrats) almost always objected to the civil rights initiatives of their own party in the past. Byrd has since renounced his former racist views.

Why are you so obcessed with Robert Byrd? What business is it of yours that Senator Byrd didn't go to Selma with the other Senators. Maybe his age could have prevented him from making a long trip. Hillary was from Arkansas so I doubt her accent is fake. Sometimes after one leaves and loses the accent it can come back easily when exposed to it again. As for Obama maybe he just was in the moment. Perhaps you need to look at real issues than be worried so much about southern accents and Robert Byrd or are you afraid of being wrong?
