Israelis are taxed much more than Americans and most of Europeans. There is Income Tax (as a divorced mother of 3, I have 6.45 points and still pay 45% income tax; that means that a single male without dependents making the same salary would pay about 65%).
There is health tax; social security tax; TV tax (which especially sucks); VAT on most consumer goods; and some local governments have local taxes for security or special services; there are property taxes, per square meter, even if you are renting; if you own more than one home, you pay a huge tax that is more than double the property taxes; if you own investments in stock markets, you are taxed.

I think I've probably forgotten some, but that's off the top of my head.

Income tax on US citizens in the US. Israel receives more US foreign aid than all other countries put together.
