"Miss Reno suddenly fired all 93 U.S. attorneys. She said the decision had been made in conjunction with the White House. Translation: The President ordered it."

Some people just can't accept Clinton's failures, crimes and misdoings, its a shame bordering on a mental disease.

What an ignorant question. Never happened but it is happening now to the US Attorneys that want to investigate the Bush administration. Thank God for a Democratic congress that is putting a stop to it. Your conservative lies will not hid the facts that are happening now with the pillaging and raping of the American people during the past 6 years by the Republicans.

I tried to follow the link from the top listed comment by "karlkalasnikov" for an article. The link is as empty as karl's accusation.

This issue is common for a conservative talking point - overstated, faulty and out of context. Yes, Clinton did dismiss the previous administration's AGs... as did George W Bush and even Ronald Reagan. You see, U.S. attorneys hold their offices at 'the pleasure of the President of the United States' and are at-will employees. Reagan, Clinton and GW Bush replaced all or most of them quite legally in the first 2 years of their respective terms.

Quoting, "Reagan replaced 89 of the 93 U.S. attorneys in his first two years in office. President Clinton had 89 new U.S. attorneys in his first two years, and President Bush had 88 new U.S. attorneys in his first two years."

What's rare is to dismiss 8 U.S. attorneys after their appointments have been confirmed, generally by mid-term. According to NPR "Richard Nixon fired one when he was in office. [Jimmy] Carter fired a U.S. attorney who was making an investigation of a Democratic House member that he wanted to keep in office. Bill Clinton fired one. But it's really very rare for this to happen."

Finally, from SALON (talking about the Bush dismissals), "When the president fires a carefully selected group of his own U.S. attorneys in the middle of his second term for reasons that appear to be political, that’s different from what Clinton (and Reagan) did. The difference is not in the rule that allowed Bush and Clinton and Reagan to dismiss U.S. attorneys — which is that those appointees serve at their pleasure — but in the reasons behind their actions. "

That's the difference. Reagan, Clinton and GW Bush each replaced previous U.S. attorneys when they first took office. Bush's firing 8 at once midterm was unprecedented. Sorry conservatives, I have to call BS on you... again. Come to think of it, I'm not sorry.
