You just need to burn a lot of calories. Whatever exersise will make you do it is a good exersise. Looking like a soccer player is not easy to achieve, so I wouldn't worry about getting too muscular. Dancers need muscles and it actually looks good. Jogging and push-ups is a good start. Combine it with pilates or yoga to make yourself look more like a dancer.
As for food suggestions - try to eat a little less than you used to. When eating, pay careful attention to whether or not you are already full. We tend to overeat when we are not paying attention, or when we eat in a good company of friends, because we talk and think about other stuff and end up finishing all the food that your hands can reach. Also, don't eat or snack late at night. Don't consume anything other than water 4 hours or less prior to bed time.

Cross train. Make sure you get in some cardiovascular activity such as running, since ballet classes are usually not continuous dancing (because we wait for others to go across the floor, we dance in groups, etc).
Now, for the look you want, I highly recommend Pilates. You can also take other dance classes such as modern and bellydancing that should help tone your core.

Eat right:
Fruits, protein, veggies.
Stay away from grease.*
Excerize:
Sit-ups, kicks, leaps, stretching/barre excerizes.*
--Muscular thighs are fine, it's strength, it's not fat, so I would just focus on the hip thing, not so much the thighs....but I'm sure you are fine, just eat right and excerize, and you'll get back to your ballerina self.
--And btw, i do ballet and i am by no means skinny, but that doesn't mean you aren't good at it. Muscel is key to me...but i'm still working on it...lol

good luckk!

Try Bellydancing. It's an awesome calorie-burner, and it's just plain fun. I have bulging disks, and my doctor actually encouraged me to Bellydance because it is such an effective way to trim down, tone up, and increase flexibility and has the added bonus of being fun, so you'll keep doing it without forcing yourself to.

Pilates and Yoga are excellent for refining this type of body. they use your body as resistance so muscles are leaner and lengthier. not bulky. as for diet protein and veggies are your best friends. lean chicken breast chopped up on a big veggie salad will give you energy to burn through the day without a big calorie surge. if you want something warm try steamed veggies (carrots broccoli and cauliflower is a good mix). it works for me on snowy days.
