I was just wondering how much money can a under age carry because im 17 and have a check for 2000 dollars and my lawyer said i have to wait till im 18 and my cousing she was 17 and had the same amount of money as me and she got to use it.

well me and my friends got in a accident so my lawyer told me that i cant spend it till im 18, but my cousin got in a accident too and she could use her money and she had a lawyer. like i sed she was 17 at that time. My lawyer said that if i use it, it would be against the law because im under age, but i just got confused because what i heard from my cousin and i saw what she bought with it too. so i just dont want my parents to go to jail i just want a answer because 18 is a long time

There must be some important information missing from this question. Their are no laws limiting how much money a minor can have. Depending on the source of the money, their could be restrictions attached to the check. I'm guessing, if their is a lawyer involved, they know the situation better than Yahoo Answers ever will.

I assume from your question that you received payment for some sort of injury in a lawsuit. You can have the money when you reach the age of majority. A guardian could be appointed to hold the money for you, but the cost of that proceeding would probably eat the whole of the $2000.

My children have held and spent more than that amount, but I did not attach conditions to their money when they got it. They have other funds through their grandparents that they don't get till they are attending college or turn 25.

Listen to your lawyer, he/she probably knows all of the conditions attatched to your money.
