I have just been through a video card upgrade and i did my research on all the popular brands
Here's what i have on those two
Ati x1950 pro--------------------nvidia 7950gt
core clock 600mhz---------------550
fill rate 7200mtexels/sec----------13200
bus width 256bit--------------------256
memory type gddr4 /3--------------gddr3
mem bandwidth44.80 gig/sec-----44.80
mem speed 700mhz-----------------700
both good cards, same memory speed, some models of the x1950 pro have the gddr4 some don't, you lose a little core speed, but it is made up by the fill rate
you would get a definite performance boost if your some kind of graphics engineer, but if your just using these cards to play games, then you should stick with the ati and save the money
most games would't be that much better using the nvidia upgrade
you also need to consider onboard ram
The x1950 has 256mb and 512mb models
if you have the 256 the upgrade would do you good
if you have 512mb, i think you should stay with it
this all has to do with your want and wallet
more info than what the question called for but that's my two cents

A more crispy view, much clearer, sharpness and ease of gaming... Clearer DVD picture, photo and able to play the most intense games available today... However, you still need 2 GB RAM
